Asclepeum

In ancient Greece any temple or sanctuary to Asclepeus, the God of Healing and Medicine, was called Asclepeum, pronounced "as-leep-ium". The most famous one was at Epidauros in Greece.

Here at Charterhouse Club we have adopted this name to represent our own sanctuary where you can experience different forms of holistic treatment. Fully trained sports and holistic therapists are available offering the following treatments to members and non -members:

Sports and Remedial Massage Therapy
The benefits of this type of massage, in particular, are numerous as it can be applied in different ways including: muscle rehabilitation, stress and tension, pre or post exercise and cellulite reduction (combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise regime) or just simple relaxation.

Craniosacral Therapy

Not to be confused with Cranial Osteopathy, this technique is a gentle, non-invasive, manipulative therapy. Craniosacral Therapy relies to a large extent upon the patient’s natural self-corrective physiological activities. Examination is carried out by testing for movement in the various parts of the craniosacral system. This is an excellent therapy for treating areas of intense pain, inflamed joints and persistent ailments and is also extremely relaxing. Common complaints such as stress, headaches, migraines, digestive disorders, IBS, on-going pain in muscles and joints, back problems, menstrual and menopausal problems may also be helped. In newborns, this form of therapy may permit the release of subtle strains and restrictions caused during birth and also in infants and children, hyperactivity, colic, feeding and sleeping problems and faulty development may often be helped.

Aromatherapy

This is a light massage used to apply specific essential oils. These produce a wide range of therapeutic effects that help to restore the body’s natural balance. Aromatherapy is a type of complementary medicine and is extremely relaxing.

Massage Therapy

Reflexology
This is a technique used to help relieve pain and dysfunction within the body by applying pressure to relevant points on the feet. Reflexology is an ancient form of therapy dating from as far back as 2300BC. It is based on the principle that there are ‘reflexes’ or energy channels in the feet which relate to every organ and function in the body. Problems in the body are reflected in the feet by sensitivity or crystalline-like lumps in the related area.

Reiki
Reiki is a very relaxing treatment simply using energy as a form of healing.

Bowen

The Bowen Technique allows the body to reset and heal itself. A treatment consists of a series of gentle ‘rolling’ moves on the skin (or through light clothing) with the client lying down. Frequent pauses between moves give the body time to respond and process the treatment. There are many theories as to how the Bowen Technique works but none that completely explain its holistic effects and often outstanding results. Very relaxing, the Bowen Technique can also be extremely effective for musculo-skeletal problems such as back pain, sports injuries and many other ailments and discomforts.
