2026 Season Review
Another incredibly busy and successful CQ (Cricket Quarter – Summer Term) for cricket, with plenty to celebrate across both the boys’ and girls’ programmes.
Boys' Cricket
The 1st XI boys enjoyed another excellent season, recording notable victories against Radley, Eton, RGS Guildford, and Reed’s. Only a defeat to Harrow prevented them from securing a share of top spot in the Cowdrey Cup.
On an individual level, Oli (Second Year Specialist – Year 13) was the standout performer, scoring three centuries during the season. Ollie (Second Year Specialist – Year 13) and Dom (Second Year Specialist – Year 13) also registered centuries, capping off an impressive year for the batting group.
The U15s and U14s experienced mixed campaigns. The U14s enjoyed a particularly strong season, with excellent wins over Radley, Tonbridge, and Winchester. Behind the stumps, Charles (Fourth – Year 9) was outstanding, combining sharp wicketkeeping with valuable contributions with the bat.
The U15s found runs harder to come by, but there were still some excellent individual performances with the ball. Albie and Billy (Removes – Year 10) both claimed five-wicket hauls during the season.
In House Cricket, Daviesites claimed the Senior title for the fifth consecutive year – surely some kind of record – while Saunderites were crowned Junior champions.
Girls' Cricket
Girls’ cricket once again enjoyed a strong summer. The 1st XI reached the Surrey Cup Final for another year, thanks to a series of solid team performances and valuable contributions throughout the squad.
The final itself was a thrilling contest. Unfortunately, the girls narrowly lost to a strong Emanuel side from the very last ball of the match. Hope (First Year Specialist – Year 12) led the team superbly throughout the season, while Livvy (First Year Specialist – Year 12) consistently impressed with the new ball, combining pace with reliability. India (Remove – Year 10) also enjoyed an excellent season, and several Fourth Form players stepped up impressively, with Lucy particularly shining with the ball.
The U15s and U14s both had busy summers and gained valuable experience that will stand them in good stead for the future. We look forward to watching their continued development as they progress through the school.
In Girls’ House Cricket, Fletcherites completed an impressive double, winning both the Senior and Junior competitions.
This winter, attention turns overseas as 42 boys and girls travel to Sri Lanka on the School’s first-ever joint cricket tour. During the February half-term, the three touring teams will take part in a varied programme of matches, promising an exciting and memorable experience for all involved.
Athletics
Unfortunately, the weather brought an early end to a number of fixtures, including the U16 match against Seaford. However, not before Max (Fourth – Year 9) had written his name into the record books by breaking the U15 800m record, a mark that had stood since the 1980s.
A total of 21 athletes were selected to represent Waverley at the Surrey Schools’ Athletics Championships. There were podium finishes for Gabriel (Fifth – Year 11) in the 400m, Josh (Fourth – Year 9) in the shot put, and Caelan (Remove – Year 10) in the 100m hurdles, all of whom won bronze medals. In addition, Charterhouse athletes recorded a further three fourth-place finishes.
This proved to be our most successful Surrey Schools’ Championships to date, with eight athletes achieving personal best performances, highlighting both the strength and depth of talent within the squad.
The final fixture of the term saw Winchester, PGS, Seaford, Downe House, and Lord Wandsworth bring athletes to the Sir Greville Spratt Track. The girls competed with tremendous determination and enthusiasm, both on the track and in the field, and were rewarded with victories across all three closely contested age groups.
In the boys’ competition, Winchester’s depth of talent ultimately proved decisive, with Charterhouse finishing as worthy runners-up. Nevertheless, there were several outstanding performances from the U15 and U16 athletes, providing plenty of encouragement and suggesting that Charterhouse athletics is well positioned to challenge the strongest local schools next season.
